Become a ski instructor
Alpine Skiing – Snowboarding – Telemark Skiing – Cross-country Skiing
The aim of the three-year study programme is that the students gain the basic skills and information about the skills and teaching of different sports, as well as successfully completed the two SHORY (Suomen Hiihdonopettajat ry) courses; Alpine ski instructor course and snowboard instructor course. After completing these course, the student will be competent to operate as a ski instructor in two different sports.
Training sessions during the winter season are held three times a week (1.5 h/session), either on weekdays after school or one session on a weekday and two on Saturdays (2 x 1.5 h). The coaches of Levi Snow Sport Academy and Levi Ski School are responsible for the education of the Ski Instructor study programme. In addition to this, there is the opportunity to participate in joint activities on an average of once per week all year round.
Studies
Training is part of school operations. During the Ski instructor study programme, 15 upper secondary optional courses are completed and the parts of the vocational qualification to be completed at Levi Institute are agreed in the personal study plan that is prepared with the student.
Accommodation
Upper secondary students who are arriving from other municipalities are offered an apartment from the residential building located in the school area. The school and the other training facilities are located within a radius of a few hundred metres and appropriate ski maintenance facilities have been implemented in the downstairs of the building. Levi is a 20-minute drive away!

Costs
The school year for the Ski Instructor study programme is 1,200 euros, including:
Studies (Levi Ski School)
Lift ticket (Levi season pass)
Transport to training (Kittilä – Levi-Kittilä)
Hire of downhill skiing, telemark, snowboard and cross-country skiing equipment
Alpine ski instructor course (Shory)
Snowboard instructor course (Shory)

Application
Applications to Levi Snow Sport Academy’s Ski Instructor study programme are submitted with a separate form by 1st March 2020.
Following a successful application, the applicant can apply to Kittilä Upper Secondary School or the vocational training at Lapland’s Education Centre REDU
via the joint application at opintopolku.fi.
Selection criteria
– Upper secondary school’s certificate with an average of 7.5
– Basic skills in downhill skiing or snowboarding
